About Us
The Arizona Disabled Scuba Divers Foundation is a 501(3)c charity that was founded in early 2009 by a group of enthusiastic divers who believed that every man, woman and child should have the opportunity to know the “undersea world.”  Able-bodied individuals had many such opportunities; where were the opportunities for those with disabilities?  We had the good fortune of working with disabled individuals through the Handicapped Scuba Association and the Diveheart Foundation in Illinois.  We had found our calling:  we could provide the opportunities for those with “limitations” by offering a variety of programs to meet the needs of disabled divers.

We believe that in addition to the pure adventure and excitement that Scuba offers, it also creates a therapeutic environment for many types of disabilities.  The weightlessness of waters offers a neutral environment for unrestricted mobility.  By providing an unparalleled environment, rehabilitation specialists can work with individuals on their specific needs ranging from strength building to manipulated movements.

We also believe that scuba diving provides a social outlet for like-minded individuals and their families.  To dive safely, all disabled divers work with buddies during training and open water dives.

All members (including instructors) of our organization are trained and certified by the Handicapped Scuba Association to work with any level of disability.  Scuba Magic, Tempe, Arizona provides the facilities and equipment for all of our programs.
